Established by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce in 1989, the Valor Scholarship fund provides post-secondary education grants to the children of our community's Medal of Valor heroes.
The prosperity and quality of life that Fairfax County enjoys are due in no small measure to the selfless and courageous acts of our community's public safety and law enforcement employees.
Every day, the men and women of the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department, Police Department and Sheriff's Office put themselves in harm's way to protect our families, our homes and our businesses.
In 1989, the Chamber established the charitable Valor Scholarship Fund to support the education of the children of our community's Medal of Valor recipients. Each child of a Medal of Valor honoree is eligible to receive a Valor grant.
Since the inception of the Valor Awards ceremony in 1979, nearly 350 police officers, firefighters and sheriff's deputies have received bronze, silver or gold Medals of Valor for their heroic acts.
In addition, the Chamber has established the Fairfax Champion Award Scholarship. This $3,000 scholarship generously underwritten by SAIC, will be awarded annually to one deserving child of a Valor Medal recipient based on academic and community service achievements.
